RidersCollective Work Presented in Namibia

28.09-02.10 our colleague Rasa, had an amazing opportunity to be a part of a facilitators group in a Socieux+ project in Windhoek, Namibia, to train trade union representatives from Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) on platform work issues. RidersCollective work was also presented in the training, as an example of ways of building communities and organising platform workers.

Currently the highest number of platform workers in Namibia work on ride hailing platforms. They are affected by lack of formal work contracts and social insurance. Dynamic pay is making income for drivers hard to plan, while expenses include not only costs of living, but often also rental costs for the vehicles and expenses to get licensed for commercial driving. Food delivery sector in Namibia is currently upcoming.

Even though there are differences in local contexts between Austria and Namibia, exploitation of platform workers cause similar issues, therefore sharing good practices can lead to a stronger local regulations for platform work companies and better working conditions for the workers.
